Medieval Hall: 7pm for 7.30pm on 7th October: Drinks followed by a talk by Emma James, Site Manager and Georgiana Cooper, Collections & House Officer
The National Trust team at Mompesson House, the eighteenth-century townhouse in Salisbury’s Cathedral Close, recently completed their project to restore the NorthEast Bedroom and opened the room to visitors in June.
Following months of careful conservation, the room has returned to how it would have appeared in the eighteenth century – the first time it has been presented in this way since the National Trust opened the house to visitors in 1977. Original wall panelling and rare papier-mâché detailing offer a striking glimpse into historic craftsmanship and design.
The restored room brings to life stories of Mompesson’s former residents, from the Mompesson family to its last resident, Denis Martineau. Visitors can now see items from the collection that are rarely on display, including a selection of Victorian resident Barbara Townsend’s watercolours, alongside intriguing objects discovered beneath the floorboards during the project.
Emma James, Site Manager at Mompesson and Georgiana Cooper, Collections & House Officer worked on the project together, with support from National Trust colleagues and Connolly Wellingham Architects. They will share the evolution of the project from their initial vision, carrying out research and surveys, to the conservation and presentation of the space.
Ticket price: £20 (£15 for SCCPS members) to include drinks To purchase tickets: http://www.ticketsource.com/SCCPS
